Sick of ants around the house or destroying your lawn? Or worried about termites damaging your property?
At Norco AgriSolutions, we supply the PCT SureFire range of ant and termite control products.
The ‘active’ chemical used in these products is Fipronil. There are a few different products that contain Fipronil, so which ones will work best?
Termites and ants cannot detect Fipronil, and the product will eradicate ants and termites if they eat the product or pass by and come in contact with the product.
If you’re looking to control termites, you need to use the liquid version, not the granular version. This is because termites are protective of their nest, and generally will not take the granule back to the nest. If you are looking to control ants, you can use either the granular product or the liquid product.
Surefire Fipronil Granular Ant Killer
The granular product contains a lower concentration of Fipronil (0.25g/kg) compared to the liquid, so is cheaper. But given the lower concentration of Fipronil in this product, you will have to use more and/or use it a bit more frequently, to keep the ants away.
SureFire Termiticide
The liquid product (SureFire Termiticide) offers 100g/L concentration of Fipronil and is loaded with a suite of wetters and penetrants, to help that chemical bind to the soil, and provide a lasting barrier in the soil. This prevents ants re-entering that area. Due to the higher concentration of Fipronil, plus the added wetters and penetrants, this product costs more than the granular product, but when applied correctly, will last a lot longer in the soil, and give longer protection from the ants; thus offering a more cost effective solution.
SureFire Vista
When looking at our range of Fipronil products, you may come across another option called Surefire Vista which has an even higher concentration of Fipronil – 200g/L. This product does not contain the wetters and penetrants, and is not suitable for application to soil, and therefore does not offer long-term protection from ants or termites.
This product is used in food crops, the exclusion of wetters and penetrants ensures that no residual chemical is left on the food crop after harvest. So, while it may look like a cheap option to control ants or termites around the house, ultimately it won’t be. The product will leach through your soil and won’t provide lasting control of ants or termites, and regular re-application would be required.
